The Covid-19 drive-through testing site at the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center will close as planned at 3 p.m. Friday, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health said.
The center at 101 Champ Blvd. in East Hempfield Township provides testing for people age 3 and up, both those with Covid-19 symptoms and those without symptoms who need clearance to return to school or work following a suspected exposure. Appointments are recommended but not required. To schedule an appointment, use the MyLGHealth portal or call (717) 588-1515.
As previously announced, the facility is closed today, Presidents Day (Feb. 21). It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 8:30 to 3 p.m. Friday.
As of the close of business on Thursday last week, the site had administered 2,239 tests, LG Health said.
The site was launched in mid-January, in order to ease pressure on other testing sites at the peak of the omicron surge. At the time, officials said it would close at the end of February.
The surge strained local health care systems; since then, caseloads and inpatient counts have dropped by 92% and 74%, respectively.
