Pennsylvania colleges and universities have until Sept. 23 to apply for a share of $1 million in Hunger-Free Campus grants.

Awarded through the state Department of Education, the competitive grants help institutions combat food insecurity among their students. Schools must be certified as Hunger-Free campuses, and are eligible for maximum awards based on their size:

  • Up to 3,000 students: Up to $20,000
  • 3,001-7,000 students: Up to $40,000
  • 7,001+ students: Up to $60,000

“This grant funding will continue the critical work of addressing food insecurity on Pennsylvania’s college and university campuses so students can focus on learning rather than hunger,” Secretary of Education Khalid Mumin said in a statement.

The Hunger-Free Campus began in 2022. Millersville University received $40,000 and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology received $20,000 in the grant round for 2023; Millersville University received $40,000 for 2024.
