Local advocates are hosting a community cookout in Lancaster this Saturday to raise awareness around the issue of guns.

The free event takes place from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at Culliton Park, 210 Conestoga St. It will feature food, a DJ, games and prizes, as well as speakers urging action to prevent gun violence.

The cookout is sponsored by CeaseFire PA; Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence; and Saving Lives: Ending Gun Violence, an initiative of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania.

Spearheading it is Lindsey Martin, whose fiance was killed in a shooting in May 2021. She previously created the Gun Violence Awareness Community Thanksgiving meal, held at Crispus Attucks Community Center beginning in 2021.
