The 2023 Age-Friendly Lancaster summit is coming next month, and the focus will be on housing.
Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, this year’s summit is the first to be held in person since the inaugural summit in 2019. It will be held at the Lancaster Public Library, 151 N. Queen St., and Cargas Systems next door at the 101NQ building.
Local developers of retirement housing will present updates on their city projects, such as Landis Communities’ Landis Place on King, Willow Valley’s planned Mosaic high-rise and Garden Spot Communities’ planned collaboration with a private developer on West King Street.
In addition, sessions will cover “age-friendly” housing solutions, including shared-housing, accessory dwelling units, intergenerational living initiatives and housing for LGBTQ+ seniors.

The Age-Friendly initiative was launched through a collaboration of Lancaster city government, Landis Communities, the Lancaster Downtowners and Age2Age Consulting. It led to Lancaster’s designation as an Age-Friendly City and the development of its age-friendly action plan.
The city’s comprehensive plan, which is scheduled for adoption next month, calls for continuing to implement the age-friendly plan’s goals and recommendations. An update on the action plan’s progress is part of the summit.
City government, Landis Communities, Lancaster Downtowners, the Lancaster Rec and United Way of Lancaster County are the lead organizations behind the summit. The lead sponsor is AARP.
