Water Street Mission in Lancaster has received a $125,000 grant from the fast-food chain Chick-fil-A.

The grant, part of Chick-fil-A’s True Inspiration Awards program, will fund Water Street’s Teen Haven, a faith-based enrichment program for middle school and high school students.

Teen Haven mixes mentoring and leadership training with skill building in STEM and the arts. Water Street said it will use the grant to support programs in music, clay and sculpture, 3D printing for circuit boards and electric components, and STEM classes.

‘Receiving this award means our students can develop deeper connections with their mentors and build stronger foundations for years to come,” Water Street Mission President Jack Crowley said in a statement.

Chick-fil-A awards $5 million annually through the True Inspiration Awards initiative. Water Street Mission is one of 46 grant recipients nationwide in 2023, and the only one in Pennsylvania.

The Lancaster nonprofit was nominated by Judy Shaffer, who operates the Chick-fil-A outlets on Lincoln Highway East and in the Shoppes at Belmont on Fruitville Pike.
