As Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center prepares to open next week, the health system hosted government officials, community leaders and staff at a ribbon cutting Wednesday at the East Hempfield Township site.
“It’s amazingly exciting,” said Mark Jarowenko, the center’s chief medical officer. “Opening a new hospital is an enormously complex process.”
The six-story 341,000-square-foot hospital includes 132 private inpatient beds, complete medical and surgical capabilities, an emergency department, imaging and lab services, as well as specialty inpatient services, including a cardiac catheterization lab and labor and delivery capability. An attached medical office building houses physician practices and outpatient services. The project cost was $375 million, Penn State Health says.
“Everything that you anticipate from a full-service hospital you will find here,” Jarowenko said.
Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center will officially open at 7 a.m. Monday.
