“Music is a universal language,” Feleen Nancarvis said.

Nancarvis is executive director of Meals on Wheels of Lancaster, which offered an initiative called “Musical Meals” in March.

Each Monday during the month, musicians joined Meals on Wheels volunteers on their rounds, playing a few songs for each client.

“It’s a way of alleviating that social isolation that many of our seniors are challenged with,” Nancarvis said.

Meals on Wheels engaged 12 volunteer musicians through a partnership with Music for Everyone for the project, which uses music as a means of building community and wellbeing.

“This has been such a treat,” Judi Wise, a client with Meals on Wheels, said. “It’s been forever since my husband and I were able to listen to live music, and the music that was played was so thoughtful and kind.”

The collaboration commemorated both Meals on Wheels’ “March for Meals” and March’s Music in Our Schools Month, the organizations said.
