Lancaster General Hospital to shift Emergency Department entrance as renovations advance

Lancaster General Hospital is opening the new entrance to its emergency room on Thursday.

Patients have been entering the emergency department via North Lime Street during LGH’s $180 million emergency room expansion project. As of Thursday, patients will begin entering on the hospital’s other side, off North Duke Street.

The hospital’s James Street lobby will serve as a temporary access for walk-ins, non-emergency patient admissions and the general public, LGH said.

The hospital is midway through its emergency department expansion. Besides the Duke Street entrance, work completed to date includes patient triage areas and an expanded lobby, LGH said.

When complete, LGH’s emergency department will have 95 beds, enough to treat 140,000 patients a year.
