The Lancaster Recreation Commission announced Friday it has received a $50,000 donation from the family of former board member Roberta Bruns.
The gift is the largest private donation of its kind the nonprofit has ever received. The organization is using the opportunity to inaugurate a Lancaster Rec “Hall of Fame,” Director Heather Dighe said, and to kick off a new program allowing individuals and organizations to create named scholarship and endowment funds to honor loved ones.
Bruns, who passed away in January, taught in the School District of Lancaster and was a dedicated volunteer at the Lancaster Rec.
“The endowment provides a lasting tribute to Mom and allows her to continue to have a positive impact on the community she loved,” Bruns’ daughter, Melissa, said.
On Thursday, Bruns’ family attended a dedication ceremony and reception at the Rec’s flagship location on Fairview Avenue.
