United Way of Lancaster County and Rotary Club of Lancaster are soliciting applications for the Summer Youth Experience grant program.

The initiative, now in its 14th year, will provide mini-grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to nonprofits who provide summer learning opportunities for youths ages 5 to 16.

This year, Rotary Club of Lancaster increased its investment in the program to $20,000.

"United Way and the Summer Youth Experience aligns with Rotary’s mission to provide service to others by improving health, quality education and alleviating poverty," Rotarian Bill Boben said. "We recognize the value of this program to under-served children and youth in Lancaster City and we’re excited to provide increased funds to make an impact on more families."

To qualify for consideration, programs must be provided by a registered nonprofit or collaboration of nonprofits and have a focus on fighting summer learning loss through curriculum in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

Curriculum and activities must be offered between June 15 and Aug. 15. Priority will be given to programs available to children residing in and around Lancaster City.

Representatives from Rotary Club of Lancaster and United Way will review applications and determine awardees during the month of May, with notifications to selected programs by June 1.
