Turn in unneeded meds on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The twice-a-year event, sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, encourages households to remove unneeded prescription medication from their homes to prevent misuse.

Penn State Health announced it will offer drive-through prescription drop-offs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at six locations, including the Lancaster Medical Center, 2160 State Road, East Hempfield Township.

Other participants include various local police departments and health facilities, many of which accept take-backs year-round. The DEA provides a search-by-address site locator on its Take-Back Day website. Another site locator that is specific to Pennsylvania is available here.

Call individual locations for further details.

In the most recent Take-Back Day, held in April, more than 330 tons of medications were turned in at more than 4,800 participating sites.
