• Lancaster County swimming pool set to open for the season: The Lancaster County Pool will soon open for the 2025 season. The Department of Parks and Recreation said the pool underwent several upgrades during the off-season, including new tile, plaster and a new wall that will create a wading section for children. The pool will be open weekends beginning May 24 and will be open daily beginning May 31. (Source: WGAL)
• Record-breaking tourism in Lancaster County: Discover Lancaster’s new president and CEO Jeffrey Vasser says there’s something for everybody who visits Lancaster County. The theory was proven by statics from a report conducted by Tourism Economics. It revealed that a record-setting 10.2 million people visited the county last year, leading to $2.7 billion being spent by visitors. That is a 4% growth in money spent from the prior year. The amount of visitors increased by 2.7%. A variety of entertainment and activities lead people to Lancaster County, including experiencing Amish culture. (Source: ABC 27)
• Sneak peek at West Art’s new coffee bar [photo: West Art, a multipurpose venue for concerts and events in Lancaster city’s west end, has built a cafe that will be open this Saturday. The cafe, called the West Art Coffee Bar, will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, even on days when West Art has other events happening in one of its two main performance areas. • Recreational marijuana legalization bill sent to Law and Justice Committee: Last week the State House approved a bill that would legalize adult-use cannabis in Pennsylvania. The bill was advanced to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration and on Monday was referred to the Senate’s Law and Justice Committee. Chair of the Law and Justice Committee, State Sen. Dan Laughlin (R., Erie), told Spotlight PA the bill was “dead on arrival” in the Republican-controlled chamber. May 5, The Cannabis Health & Safety Act (HB1200) was passed in the House by a party-line vote of 102-101. Under the legislation, cannabis shops would be banned from selling more than 42.5 grams of marijuana , the legislation’s proposed legal possession limit for adults aged 21 and over, within a 24-hour period. Additionally the bill proposes that marijuana products sold at licensed shops would be subject to a 12% excise tax. Revenue from the taxes would be deposited in a Cannabis Revenue Fund managed by the Department of Revenue. (Source: Fox 43)
