Education key to state plan to reduce avian flu in Pennsylvania: The spread of avian flu was a significant concern for state officials and those involved in the agriculture industry, as the disease has emerged in the U.S. among dairy cattle. Wednesday Gov. Josh Shapiro, D-Pa., visited the Farm Show and explained that the state has been primarily focused on education regarding mandatory testing requirements for poultry and biosecurity measures that have to be in place to limit the spread of germs that carry avian flu, which is deadly for birds.
