• Franklin & Marshall College lays off 16 staff members: Franklin and Marshall laid off 16 of its staff Wednesday due to decreasing enrollment. The Lancaster city-based college announced that it would cut staff in February. The positions being terminated are in the college’s library, facilities and operations, the Center for Sustainable Environment and the conference and events departments. According to the college, some positions were also changed from 12-month to 10-month schedules, with full benefits maintained. Terminated employees are receiving a severance package which includes several months of pay and career transition assistance. (Source: LNP) 

• Brinks Home Security sells Lancaster City offices: Brinks Home Security has sold several of its offices to western Pennsylvania-based Guardian Protection, including its offices in Lancaster. Guardian will acquire all of Brinks’ customers in the process and will look for another location in the area for its offices. Brinks Home’s customers were two-thirds commercial, concentrated in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. The sale, according to Brinks Home, is to “focus on its core strengths.” (Source: LNP) 

• Lancaster Theological Seminary to celebrate bicentennial: The Lancaster Theological Seminary will celebrate its bicentennial on April 27. It plans to hold a celebration at its Lancaster city campus including guest speakers, music, and highlights of the seminary’s history. Lancaster Theological Seminary was founded in 1825. It is a graduate school affiliated with the United Church of Christ and Moravian University, though its students and faculty come from many Christian faith traditions. (Source: LNP) 

• Gov. Shapiro criticizes Trump’s tariffs: During a visit to a Lehigh Valley brewery, Governor Josh Shapiro called Trump’s tariffs harmful. He added that they raise prices for businesses and risk damaging certain industries. He highlighted the damage it can do to small businesses such as craft breweries. He called the tariffs a tax on our businesses and consumers. He said that the tariffs especially hurt the hardwood industry, with a billion dollars in losses. (Source: WGAL)
