• Seventh graders in Lancaster County below herd immunity rate for whooping cough vaccinations: Due to low vaccination rates, Lancaster County is exposed to an increase in whooping cough cases and deaths. The disease, which is also called pertussis, is a bacterial infection of the respiratory system which causes intense coughing fits and loud “whooping” sounds. Vaccinations roughly every decade for pertussis are the best way of preventing the disease. However, for “herd immunity,” or community-level protection against the disease, at least 90% of the population must be vaccinated. They gathered in their community’s library to meet with experts and discuss plans for mitigating potential funding cuts to the area’s schools. • Deported Bhutanese refugees reach Nepal border in less than 24hr: Four Bhutanese refugees from Pennsylvania, deported back to Bhutan, reached the India-Nepal border within 24 hours. Local Bhutaneses community leaders and Dauphin County Commissioner Justin Douglass expressed concerns about their safety. Local Leader Tilak Niroula, emphasized the importance of keeping the community safe and wanting answers from leaders.
