Application period open for expanded state property tax, rent rebate program

With the application period now open for Pennsylvania’s property tax and rent rebate program, Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration is encouraging more Pennsylvanians to see if they qualify.

Changes passed in the 2023-24 budget both increased benefits and expanded eligibility requirements. About 175,000 more older Pennsylvanians and those with disabilities now qualify, the administration said, including an estimated 5,700 in Lancaster County.

Individuals are eligible if their household income is $45,000 or less and if they are 65 or older, 50 or older and a widow or widower, or an adult with a disability.

Maximum rebates range from $380 to $1,000, depending on income. Supplemental rebates are available in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Scranton.
