YWCA Lancaster announces voter education workshops

YWCA Lancaster is hosting a three-part series of sessions on voting rights and elections.

Titled “Election Declassified: Voter Survival Guide,” the free series aims to educate and empower voters. It is part of the YWCA Lancaster-led “Lancaster Votes” initiative.

The sessions will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month: Aug. 6, Sept. 3 and Oct. 1. The venue is YWCA Lancaster’s headquarters, 110 N. Lime St., Lancaster. To register, click here.

In the Aug. 6 session, attendees will hear from seasoned poll workers and have a chance to ask questions. The Sept. 3 session will focus on voting rights and voting barriers; the Oct. 1 session will discuss civic engagement and why everyone’s vote matters.

Dinner and childcare are provided, and Spanish-language interpretation will be available.

“Your participation in these events will contribute to a more vibrant and active democratic community in Lancaster County,” YWCA Lancaster said in a statement.

Lancaster Votes is a nonpartisan effort to increase voter registration and participation, spearheaded by YWCA Lancaster with support from other partners, including the Lancaster Chamber, League of Women Voters Lancaster and United Way of Lancaster County.

Lancaster Votes’ website provides links to Pennsylvania state’s voter services and to a registration platform provided by Vote.org, a national get-out-the-vote nonprofit. Its technology is designed to register and mobilize grassroots voters, especially young voters and those from historically marginalized groups.
