Crispus Attucks Community Center will celebrate its namesake with a “Cooks of Color” soul food event this weekend.

“Crispus Attucks Day” will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the center, located at the corner of South Duke Street and Howard Avenue in southeast Lancaster.

Believed to have been born in May 1723, Attucks was of Black and Native American ancestry. He was killed on March 5, 1770, in the Boston Massacre and is traditionally considered the first American to have died in the Revolutionary War.

Sunday’s free event “will honor his legacy of strength and bravery,” organizers said.
