Telephone registration opened Friday for the 2022 Project for the Needy holiday meal giveaway, and online registration is set to open on Monday.

As in past years, the Project for the Needy will distribute more than 1,000 free Christmas dinner boxes to Lancaster County families. Registration is on a first-come, first served basis.

There is a limit of one food box per residence and deliveries can only be made to private residences or apartments.

Registration is being handled through United Way of Lancaster County’s 211 East service. To register, call 211 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The deadline is Dec. 9. If you cannot dial 211, use the number (717) 291-5462.

Beginning Monday, you may also register at www.uwlanc.org/project-needy. Up to 400 registrations will be accepted online.

The Project for the Needy is using a contactless delivery method to ensure health and safety. The boxes will be delivered between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Dec. 17.

Recipients must be home to receive their food boxes. Delivery drivers will knock on the door or ring their doorbell and will follow up by a phone call to the phone number provided during registration.
