Registration is open for the 2023 Project for the Needy holiday meal giveaway, which provides free Christmas dinner boxes to Lancaster County families.
As has been the case since the pandemic, volunteers will deliver the boxes to recipients’ homes. Deliveries will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 16, two Saturdays before Christmas.
Signups are being handled through PA 211 East, the social services hotline operated by United Way of Lancaster County. Households can sign up online or via telephone. If you cannot dial 211, use the number (717) 291-5462. The deadline is this Friday, Dec. 1.
Registration is first come, first served. Online registrations are capped at 400 and overall registration is capped at 1,200.
Deliveries can only be made to private residences or apartments, not to shelters, hotels or transitional living facilities. There is a limit of one food box per residence.
Recipients must be home to receive their food boxes. Delivery drivers will knock on the door or ring their doorbell and will follow up by a phone call to the phone number provided during registration.
