Hundreds of individuals in recovery and their supporters and allies thronged Buchanan Park on Saturday for Lancaster's ninth annual Recovery Day.

Attractions included a 5K race, a community lunch with all-you-can-eat barbecue or a boxed vegan option, and a Recovery Rocks concert by Octavia Blues Band.

"I love bringing my students here," said Alex Redcay, a social work professor at Millersville University.
It gives them an opportunity to network and learn about the recovery process, she said.

Providers' services vary, so it was helpful to learn about them in detail, as well as see all the community support, said Millersville juniors Alexis Stengel and Madi Jameson.

Recovery Day Chairman Scott Theurer described the event as "basically, everything recovery."

"It's recovery support. It's holistic health care. It's mental wellbeing and wellness," he said. "Tremendous food, awesome music and the fellowship and the celebration of families and individuals that are in recovery."
