(Source: LancasterHistory)

Next month, LancasterHistory will begin offering free and reduced-price admission to families that receive federal food assistance.

On Wednesday, LancasterHistory announced that, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3, it will offer discounts to holders of SNAP EBT cards and WIC cards, lowering ticket prices to $3 for adults aged 18 and up and free for children and youths 17 and under.

Museums for All

Participating institutions in Lancaster County:

  • Ephrata Cloister
  • Hands-On House / Children’s Museum of Lancaster
  • LancasterHistory (beginning Sept. 3)
  • Lancaster Medical Heritage Museum
  • Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum
  • National Watch & Clock Museum
  • North Museum of Nature & Science
  • Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
  • Winters Heritage House Museum & Siebert Genealogy Research Library

The discounts are possible because LancasterHistory has joined Museums for All. An initiative of the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, Museums for All offers free and reduced admission to more than 1,300 participating institutions nationwide, including eight other facilities in Lancaster County.

SNAP and WIC cardholders must present a current card and a valid ID. Admission is good for up to four individuals, one of whom must be an adult.

LancasterHistory’s campus includes its flagship history museum, the Wheatland mansion (the home of President James Buchanan) and the Louise Arnold Tanger Arboretum.

The Museums for All discount will also be available at LancasterHistory’s upcoming Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center for History and Democracy in downtown Lancaster, which is scheduled to open in 2025.

“We’re really excited to join this initiative,” said Robin Sarratt, Vice President of LancasterHistory. “We want everyone in our community, whether residents or visitors, to access, enjoy, and learn from museums.”
