Girls on the Run of Lancaster & Lebanon is expecting a crowd of more than 2,000 at its fall 5K this weekend.

The event begins at 9 p.m. Saturday on the fields behind Pucillo Gymnasium at Millersville University. Online registration has closed, but registration for community members will be available in person at the gym on the morning of the run.

Every fall and spring, Girls on the Run offers 10-week programs during which girls build confidence and learn healthy habits and life skills. At the end of each season, the nonprofit holds a noncompetitive 5K fun run to celebrate the girls who have completed the sessions. Girls are joined by “running buddies” who accompany them along the course.

The 5K is one of the largest in the area, and on Saturday will honor more than 530 girls. It celebrates everyone who finishes, regardless of placement.

Saturday’s event is presented by Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, the sponsor of GOTR Lancaster & Lebanon’s 5Ks for more than a decade.
