A film exploring disability and public attitudes toward it, past and present, will be featured as the next entry in Millersville University’s “On Screen / In Person” series.
The documentary “I Didn’t See You There” was shot by Reid Davenport, who uses an electric wheelchair for mobility, entirely from his perspective. It won him the 2022 Sundance Film Festival Documentary Directing Award and is described as a “personal and unflinching” film that “forces the viewer to confront the spectacle and invisibility of disability.”
As with other films in the “On Screen / In Person” series, “I Didn’t See You There” will be bookended by a discussion before the screening by local panelists, and a post-screening Q&A featuring Davenport himself.
The event takes place Tuesday evening, Feb. 21, at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. It is free; click here to secure tickets in advance.
The panel will kick off at 6:15 p.m. with the following members:
- Jaclyn Nagle: Executive director, Disability Empowerment Center;
- Blue Guckert: President, MU ADAPT, a grassroots disability rights organization;
- Jessica Hughes: Professor, Communication & Disability Studies, Millersville University;
- Marco Di Giulio, Professor, Hebrew Language & Literature, Franklin & Marshall College, and a disability researcher.
The documentary screening will begin at 7 p.m. and will be captioned. Davenport’s Q&A will begin around 8:20 p.m.
