It offered an array of fun activities for children including face painting, carnival games, snack-making activities, and a LEGO competition. Volunteers from Franklin & Marshall College helped run sports and games at the Roberto Clemente Field across the street.
The event was part of a nationwide celebration of the importance of afterschool opportunities for youth. More than 8,000 agencies that host “Lights On Afterschool” every year across the country.
The initiative is organized by the Afterschool Alliance, a public awareness and advocacy nonprofit.
“I’m really proud that we get to provide an engaging opportunity for the youth in this community," said Boys & Girls Club community impact director, Samantha Sweigart.
"And I’m proud of our kids. … They make events like this fun and exciting.”
