African American Cultural Fair starts tonight; parade is Saturday

The African American Cultural Fair opens this evening at Reservoir Park on Lancaster city’s east side.

Organized by the African American Cultural Alliance of Lancaster, the fair runs through Saturday. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. tonight through Friday and 4 to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Saturday features the African American Parade, which leaves at 1 p.m. from North Street near Martin Luther King Elementary School and ends at the park. The grand marshals are the Rev. Edward Bailey; Darlene Byrd, founder of South Ann Concernced Citizens; and Magisterial District Justice Jodie Richardson.

Other highlights include:

  • Tuesday: “Step 2 Da Mic” poetry night
  • Wednesday: Black & Latino Excellence Awards
  • Thursday: “The Experience” Band and Show
  • Friday: Live performance by rap artist Trina
  • Saturday: Live performance by gospel singer Kierra Sheard

Admission to the fair is free; food is available for purchase, as are tickets for carnival rides.
