The Pennsylvania Union of the Homeless, along with several other organizations, will hold a memorial event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Historic Salem United Church of Christ, 344 Walnut St., Columbia.

The event, which takes place on the longest night of the year, will commemorate homeless individuals who have died around the country and the world. Participants will share stories from the streets and their views on the need to organize and advocate for change.

The commemoration is part of the National Union of the Homeless' "Winter Offensive," which runs through Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The state chapter plans to livestream Tuesday's event for those unable to attend in person.
