Children at Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County enjoyed a story on Friday courtesy of a partnership with Fulton Theatre and PNC Foundation's Grow Up Great initiative.

The "Ripe for Reading" program provides educational and creative programming to local preschool children. Friday's activity involved a virtual reading of the children's book "Apple Picking Day."

The Fulton Theatre's Stephjo Wise, director of education and outreach, creates story videos in English and Spanish, with support from PNC. Friday's lesson included original ukulele music and a crafting project. Afterward, students received their own copy of "Apple Picking Day" to take home in either language, whichever they prefer.

They also received a cup of applesauce as a snack, donated by Knouse Foods Cooperative, to underline the lesson about healthy food and where it comes from.

"We are so grateful for the educational resources the Fulton, PNC and the Building Bridges program continue to offer our children and families," said Ashley Little, CAP's Thrive to Five instructional coach, "especially because these resources are being offered in a way that honors the primary language of the majority of the children we serve, which is so important."

Also participating in Ripe for Reading are York Day Nursery, Community Progress Council and Capital Area Head Start.
