• ‘May Day movement’ takes the streets of Lancaster City: Protestors against President Donald Trump’s threat to American programs, filled the streets of Lancaster on Thursday. Local resident Cindy Jennings participated because of the potential cut to Medicare, which her son Matt, has relied on for many years. The Trump administration has said it will not make cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, or Medicare. (Source: WGAL)

• Hempfield township drinking water warning: Currently, Hempfield Water Authority customers are placed on a drinking water warning due to high nitrate levels affecting the “low pressure system” in East Hempfield Township and parts of West Hempfield Township. A water authority in Lancaster County stated that infants should not drink water. Pregnant individual and people with health conditions should consult doctor. The authority advises that infants under six months could become ill if they drink the water and results could be fatal. Pregnant individual and individuals with serious health conditions should consult their doctors if they consume the water. The water is acceptable to bath in as the authority believes there is not risk. (Source: WGAL)

• Pa. mandates financial literacy education for high school graduation starting in 2026: Pennsylvania high school students will soon require students to complete a financial literacy course before graduation because of a new state law. York Suburban High School, is giving its students a head start through a program that simulates real-world financial situations within the classroom environment. Business teacher, Kevin Williams said the students get paid on Monday and their bills come on Friday. They have a credit score that is affected by their payment history, their attendance at school. The students learn financial literacy skills such as investing, credit management and banking, through hands-on activities. Students can also purchase their desk as if they were apartments, this incorporates a real estate concept. (Source: Fox 43)

• $1 million dollars raised for nonprofits through Give Local York:  The annual Give local York fundraiser has officially surpassed $1 million raised for local nonprofits, on the morning of its second day. The fundraiser, began Thursday and will end at 9 p.m. Friday. As of 7:15 a.m., Give Local York had already received over 4,400 gifts from over 2,900 donors, raising over a million dollars for 299 organizations. According to its website, for the past seven years the initiative has  raised more than $25 million for local nonprofits, accepting donations from tens of thousands of donors from all over the world.
