• Shapiro visits downtown Lancaster: Gov. Josh Shapiro came to Lancaster city to visit small businesses downtown, spotlighting his administration’s investments in 81 Main Street Matters projects across Pennsylvania. Shapiro acquired $20 million in the 2024-25 bipartisan budget to invest in his 81 Main Street Matters projects across the Commonwealth this includes more than $1.2 million for Lancaster County to revitalize downtowns, grow local economies, and create jobs. • LancasterHistory looking for bakers, historians for Founding Day cake: LancasterHistory is preparing for the anniversary of the founding of Lancaster County by asking local bakers and historians to participate in a set of events. One of them is the County Founding Day Cake Contest which pits 5 bakers against each other to bake a “birthday cake” for the county. The other event is the Regional History Flash Talks, which aims to showcase local historians, both professional and amateur, in 15-minute presentations about local history. Lancaster County was founded on May 10, 1729, and the LancasterHistory County Founding Day events run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8. (Source: LNP)
• Bistro Barberet and Bakery owner sues restaurant’s namesake: Ben Frank, the owner of downtown Lancaster business Bistro Barberet and Bakery, has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant’s namesake, famous pastry chef Cedric Barberet. Frank alleges that Barberet misappropriated funds from the business to pay for his lifestyle. He also alleges that he breached the business’s operating agreement by opening a coffee shop in the Southern Market which served identical products and could therefore compete with the original restaurant. Earlier that day it was reported that Barberet and his wife Estelle were no longer affiliated with Bistro Barberet and Bakery. (Source: LNP)
• Dauphin County shelter opens: The cold fluctuating temperatures this spring gas kept the Bethesda Mission busy. The mission is working to keep guest safe during the cold weather. The shelter serves 98 men, has been at full capacity for the past two years, provides beds, three meals a day, medical attention and other residential services. Executive Director, Bill Christian, explained when it gets cold people come in looking for shelter. When it is a bit warmer they are willing to stay outside. (Source: CBS 21)
