• Debate to be held for Lancaster city council candidates: The candidates for Lancaster city council will meet at the Bethel AME Church on East Strawberry Street to present their platforms to the public. Eight Democrats are competing for four seats this year, with no Republicans joining the race. The candidates are incumbents Ahmed Ahmed and Lochard Calixte, and challengers Vincent Derek Smith, Andre Gilbert, Nancy I. Millán, Marshal Miller, Willie Shell Sr., and Amos Stoltzfus. Ahmed, Millán and Miller are endorsed by the city’s Democratic Committee. (Source: LNP) 

• Over 1,000 protesters gather in Lancaster’s Penn Square for ‘Hands Off!’ rally: A protest was held in Penn Square in Lancaster Saturday which at its peak attracted an estimated 2,000 people, so many that the crowd overflowed into neighboring streets. The subject of the protest is the Trump administration’s policies, including immigration crackdowns and threats to government programs. The protest was part of a nationwide protest called “Hands Off!” which attracted combined crowds of hundreds of thousands in cities such as Harrisburg and Philadelphia. Lancaster’s protest happened thanks to an anonymous person registering the event with the national movement. (Source: LNP) 

• State parks anticipating increased traffic due to federal park cuts: The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has seen a nearly 30% increase in campground reservations in March for the rest of the year, compared to last year. Lancaster County and its surrounding counties have four state parks which have options for staying overnight. There are 124 state parks across Pennsylvania and 2.2 million acres of state forests. Susquehannock State Park in Lancaster County only accepts camping groups, between 20 and 100 people. (Source: LNP) 

• Humane Pennsylvania opens thrift store to support operations: Humane Pennsylvania on Lincoln Highway East in Lancaster held a grand opening for its on-site thrift shop. The store, called Thrifty Kitty, will sell secondhand products such as antiques, books, glassware and kitchenware, art, and collections of items. All sales at the shop will go towards Humane Pennsylvania’s animals and programs. Thrifty Kitty will be open Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. (Source: FOX 43)
