In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the Arts at Millersville University has invited the Lancaster AAPI community to share their cultures at We the People First Friday on Friday, May 2 at the Ware Center in Lancaster.

The performance portion of the event starts at 6:30 p.m. in Steinman Hall, the Lancaster AAPI will take the audience to the world of xiaochi, or “small eats.” The live food demonstrations will feature popular street foods from Burma, Thailand and Cambodia. Between each country’s presentation, the Temple Breakers, Temple University’s breakdancing team, will perform.
The gallery exhibit will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Regitz Gallery. Lancaster AAPI artists will be leading the reception to celebrate ikebana, meaning “giving life to flowers” and is a form of the Japanese art of flower arrangement.
Viewers can experience the “cultural richness” of the AAPI community through the collaborative art exhibit showing each artist’s interpretation of ikebana. The gallery exhibit will be on display until May 30.
No tickets are required for this event as it is free and open to the public. More information about this event as well as other We the People First Friday events can be found by visiting The Arts at Millersville Website.
