• Environmental groups against hydroelectric project near Susquehanna River: Local environmental groups  filed a petition Friday in the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, asking it to overturn a preliminary permit for the Cuff’s Run pumped storage project in York County. The York Energy Solutions $2.3 billion dam and power turbine project would flood 580 acres in Chanceford Township, York County, located just across the Susquehanna River from Manor Township in Lancaster County. Water from the Susquehanna would be pumped into the reservoir and be released to spin turbines and create electricity. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved a preliminary permit for the Cuffs Run project in November. While, the permit does not give York Energy Storage permission to build, it gives the company four years to study the project while holding the company’s spot in line for license applications.
