• Governor’s office reveals why it spent $368K on private law firms: The administration of former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, spent tens of thousands of public dollars to hire private law firms for an ethics investigation, federal and state grand jury probes, and advice on taxes. The information was turned over to Spotlight PA late December as part of a long-running court dispute over redactions the governor’s office had made to legal bills paid with taxpayer money. • The Pennsylvania House of Representatives avoids deadlock: Republican Leader Jesse Topper withdrew his nomination to lead the House following a deadlocked vote. Allowing Speaker Joanna McClinton return to the post. Topper told reporters that bowing out of a battle for the House speaker’s gavel would spare the House and its constituents a repeat of 2023, when the lack of a clear majority and the election of a compromise speaker resulted in months of inaction.
