• UGI rate increase could affect gas bills: Customers of UGI Utilities could see higher bills in the future if the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approves a request filed by the company to increase its rates. “UGI Utilities Gas Division has requested an overall rate increase of $110.4 million per year,” the company said. “If the company’s entire request is approved, the total bill for a residential customer using 73.7 ccf per month would increase from $104.47 to $115.74 per month, or by 10.8%. • Lancaster city will comply with state and federal immigration law as Trump issues executive orders: Lancaster city officials say they will abide by state and federal immigration laws, even though they are unaware how it will affect the city. The White House intends to crack down on migrants who do not have permanent U.S. residency status, this has forced forced municipal leaders across the nation to scramble in an effort to protect migrants. Last year, Lancaster has made its own move to protect migrants when it approved a Welcoming City ordinance, though officials say the policy does not bar compliance with federal law. ( Source: LNP )

• School Districts weigh in on executive order letting ICE into schools: Trump eliminated a 13-year-old policy that prohibited federal immigration agencies from making arrests at schools. According to the Migration Policy Institute, Pennsylvania has about 11,000 immigrants under the age of 16 in the U.S. illegally, while another 25,000 immigrants between ages 16 and 24 under in the U.S. illegally. School District of Lancaster remains silent on the issue. Kathryn O’Dell, spokesperson for Conestoga Valley School District, said in an email it’s too early to tell how the order could impact the nearly 4,000-student district. ( Source: LNP )

• Pa. House faces a legislative gridlock after unexpected vacancy: The Pennsylvania House is starting the new legislative session with an incomplete chamber due to the death of Democratic state Rep.
