• Church World Service furloughs most staff due to Trump cuts: Nonprofit agency Church World Service has been forced to furlough a significant number of its staff. Valentina Ross, the organization’s Lancaster director said the decision was made due to the Trump administration’s policy and funding changes. • Demolition to begin this month for Mosaic luxury retirement home: Demolition of a former LNP production building is set to start this month in preparation for the construction of the new Willow Valleys Communities’ luxury high-rise retirement home, Mosaic. Construction has been caught up in delays, with the building now set to be completed three years behind schedule, in 2028. Mosaic, will be the tallest building in Lancaster County once completed, with 20 stories. (Source: LNP)
• Dead birds at egg facility being tested for bird flu: Dead birds at a Kreider Farms egg facility at Dauphin County are being tested for avian influenza. “There’s a lot of different diseases that occur in poultry that show similar signs,” said Dr. Gregory Martin with Penn State Extension. He pointed out that this was only one facility, and since eggs are cooked and milk is pasteurized, the eggs and milk we eat and drink are safe. • Reducing rejection rates by letting votes fix mail in ballots: Pennsylvania counties that allow voters to fix errors on their mail ballots, known as curing, have lower rejection rates. In the 2024 general elections, counties with curing policies rejected 0.49% of mail ballots due to voter errors, compared to 0.59% in counites with the policies. Jeff Greenburg, a senior adviser on election administration for the Philadelphia, explained this highlights the disparity in rules Pennsylvanians face base don where they live.
