• Lancaster mayoral candidate Janet Diaz expected to miss this weeks debate: Lancaster city’s Democratic mayoral candidates, Jaime Arroyo and Janet Diaz, have been invited to their second debate of the primary season, May 8 debate at The Ware Center on North Prince Street. Event organizers of the Lancaster Chamber have not gotten a response from Diaz. The Chamber contacted Diaz’s campaign via email, paper mail and phone to confirm her attendance and assume Diaz will not attend. According to Katharine DeSantis, Lancaster Chamber’s public policy coordinator, The chamber has only received a text response as of Thursday. Diaz has not responded to multiple requests for comment on the issue. (Source: LNP)
• Fulton Theater cancels weekend performances due to unforeseen circumstances: Saturday morning the Fulton Theater announced they would be cancelling performances of the musical ‘Anastasia’ on Saturday and Sunday. According to a social media post made by the organization the May 3 and 4 performances have been cancelled, “due to circumstances beyond our control,” The box office will be in contact with all ticket holders for the weekend performances. The organization did not return a request for comment Saturday. (Source: LNP)
• Price is Right Live! is coming to Lancaster: “The Price is Right Live!” is an interactive live stage version of the daytime television program that brings aspects of the show to the stage such as Pinko, spin the wheel and showcase showdown. The show will be held at the American Music Theatre on Oct. 9. Tickets are on sale now and start at $49. (Source: ABC 27)
• Amid funding reform debate Pa. lawmakers examine cyber charter school reserves: During a testimony hearing Friday at Greater Johnstown it was revealed that Cyber charter schools are reportedly holding hundreds of millions of dollars in reserves, even as public schools are paying them millions of dollars in taxpayer money. The Pennsylvania House Education Committee heard testimonies from two local school officials, as well as the parent of a student attending a cyber charter. According to Pennsylvania Representative Frank Burns the committee is holding hearing to evaluate what the actual cost is to teach a student at a cyber school. (Source: CBS 21)
