- Smucker plans to extend small business tax deduction: Thursday, Congressman Llyod Smucker, reintroduced his proposal to extend a business tax deduction set to lapse at the end of this year. The bill would extend a provision allowing pass-through businesses that aren’t subject to the corporate income tax to deduct up to 20% of their qualified earnings from their taxes. (Source: LNP )
- Coatesville superintendent resigns: Jan. 14, The Coatesville Area School board voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Catherine Van Vooren effective immediately. In November, the board voted to place Vooren on leave effective on Oct. 28. The board has not given a reason for the leave, explaining it is a confidential personal matter. ( Source: LNP )

Joe Webster proposes a state flag redesign: Democrat representing the 150th district, thinks the flag is representative of Pa. but it is time to look to the future and show people what Pa can do. Citing the North American Vexillological Association five principles of a good flag: Keep it simple, use meaningful symbolism, use two or three basic colors, avoid lettering or seals, be distinctive or be related. Webster says the current Pa. flag does not represent that.
