Lancaster City Housing Authority to open public housing waiting list next week

The Lancaster City Housing Authority will open a portion of its public housing waiting list next week.

Applicants who are eligible for efficiencies (0 bedroom) and one-bedroom apartments are invited to apply beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 14. The authority said it will accept the first 100 applications received in each category.

The authority said it will give priority on the efficiency waiting list to disabled individuals and those age 62 and up. For the one-bedroom list, couples with one individual who is disabled or age 62+ will receive priority.

Demand for public housing is high, and the opening of a waiting list typically results in a torrent of applications. When the city authority opened its waiting list for Section 8 vouchers last year, it received more than 3,700 applications in less than two days.
