United Way of Lancaster County began scheduling appointments this week for VITA, its free tax preparation service.
VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, offers tax services to Lancaster County residents who make $70,000 or less per year.

More than 150 volunteers have completed training and earned Internal Revenue Service certification.
Households can also prepare their taxes online for free themselves through United Way’s MyFreeTaxes.com.
During last year’s tax season, VITA prepared 8,881 tax returns, saving Lancaster County residents $2.4 million in preparation fees and securing nearly $9 million in refunds.
