The tickets for this year's VeloCity celebration sold out within two weeks, said Kathlene Carroll Sullivan, social media & engagement manager at the Lancaster City Alliance.
Launched in 2015, VeloCity brings hundreds of guests to Tellus360 in Lancaster for a night of gourmet food, drinks, music and fashion. This year's edition took place Thursday. It featured all the elements that have grown popular over the event's history: The cocktail competition, a local fashion show and a silent auction.
Proceeds go toward the alliance's programs, which support local small businesses and work to enhance Lancaster's economic vitality.
VeloCity showcases many of those businesses, noted Alex Otthofer, the alliance's community engagement manager: The cocktail competition contestants, fashion models, food vendors and so on are all drawn from the city community.
VeloCity 2023 raised about $47,000. Otthofer and Sullivan said the 2024 event was on track to meet or exceed that amount.
Otthofer said the fashion show is his favorite element. It's "super cool" to see your friends and neighbors strutting their stuff on the runway, he said: "There's nothing like it in Lancaster."
Sullivan said her favorite is the cocktail competition, judged by a panel of local experts.
The fashion show featured outfits from Basura Thrift Boutique, Ellicott & Co., EsoArts Lancaster, and 14th Boutique, Hooked 'N Sewn, In White, Larkstone and Prism Thrift. Performers included Evita Colon, Mambojaz Dance Co. and Suge, while DJ Major Vibes kept the beats flowing.
In the cocktail competitino, the judges awarded 1st place to Weston Fetterolf of Decades Lancaster, 2nd place to Jamie Graybill from Proof of Lancaster and 3rd to Jen Splain from Passerine. The People's Choice cocktail award went to Austin Grzymala from Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse.
