State Rep. Nikki Rivera, D-Lancaster, and state Rep. Ismail Smith-Wade-El, D Lancaster, have set the date for the 14thAnnual Back-to-School event for Aug. 10 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The event aims to help students prepare for the school year with supplies, services and a fun day out for families. Students and families that plan to attend must register to secure their free backpack, clothes, shoes, haircuts and more. Registration can be found on Rep. Nikki Rivera’s website.
Participation is open to children who will be entering kindergarten through 8th grade and high school aged students in 2025-26 and who live in one of the following four school districts:
- Hempfield School District
- Penn Manor School District
- School District of Lancaster
- Manheim Township School District
The school districts are those covered by the two legislators’ House districts. Prior to redistricting in 2022, Lancaster city sat fully within a single legislative district, which fomer Rep. Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster, had represented since 1991. Today, Smith-Wade-El represents Lancaster’s south side and Rivera represents the north, with both districts extending beyond the city into neighboring municipalities.
