Lunar New Year celebration planned in Ewell Plaza on Sunday

Lancaster’s Asian-American and Pacific Islander community is hosting a festival this weekend to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

It will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ewell Plaza, across from Binns Park in the 100 block of North Queen Street. The plans include music, dance performances and an array of food.

The Lunar New Year is a tradition in China and throughout south and southeast Asia. Sunday marks the start of the Year of the Rabbit, the fourth year in the 12-year Chinese Zodiac cycle.

The celebration is being organized by Laura Z Tai Fine Jewelry and Lancaster AAPI. This will be its first year; organizers say they are hoping to grow it and make it an annual event.
