The Lancaster County Community Foundation will announce the recipients of its remaining “Shaping Tomorrow” grants at two events this fall.
To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the foundation is donating more than $1 million to nonprofits working in Lancaster County. It invited organizations to submit applications in four categories: Creative Expression, Wellbeing & Vibrancy, Next Generation and Our Planet.
Grants in the first two categories were made this spring at celebrations at Rock Lititz and Buchanan Park. The foundation has been reviewing applications for the remaining two categories and will announce its funding decisions this month and next, as follows:
- Elevating the Next Generation: 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Millersville University’s Student Memorial Center, 21 S. George St., Millersville.
- Festivities will include poetry readings and performances by the Infamous Unstoppables Drill Team & Drum Corps.
- Protecting Our Planet: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at The Farm at Eagles Ridge, 465 Long Lane, Lancaster.
- Festivities will include a collaborative art piece and live music from Lavacave. Representatives from local environmental organizations will be on hand, including the Lancaster Conservancy, Lancaster Farmland Trust, RegenAll and the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association.
The Shaping Tomorrow awards, and the centenary celebrations of which they are a part, are intended to encourage community members to think creatively about their generational legacy, and what groundwork can be laid to build “a more resilient, vibrant and inclusive shared future,” the foundation says.
